Bali Cycle Tours

Last month we took a private cycle tour with Sanur Cycle Tours around the seaside village of Sanur.

With an early departure from the carpark of our hotel (Hotel Sanur Beach) just after 7am it was a perfect time as it was cool and the streets were still quiet. Slowly working our way uptown along Jalan Danau Tamblingan, Michael (our tour guide) pointed out many landmarks and other points of interest along the way which we noted and would checkout in more detail later at our leisure.

Before I go on, one thing I would seriously suggest is to take this cycle tour at the beginning rather than the end of your stay in Sanur, as we saw many things along the route

that we would have loved to follow up on but we only had 2 days left in the Sanur area. So my advice would be to take the cycle tour at the beginning of your Sanur holiday

not at the end as undoubtedly there will be many things that you will see along the way worthy of follow up later.

Once we reached the top of town Michael stopped and showed us through the Sanur morning markets and for me this was one of the tour highlights. This is a local market

where villagers and local shopkeepers start their day buying meats, fruits, vegetables and produce. What better way to see, feel and understand how the locals live than

to stand in the middle of a morning market watching the battering between buyers and sellers, it also gives you a feel for market prices which comes in handy when

gauging prices for goods when shopping throughout your Bali holiday.

But the highlight for everyone came after we left the morning markets and coasted down Jalan Sindu towards Sindu Beach. Once we hit the beach we turned right and

continued our journey along the paved beach path that stretches some 7 kilometers from Sindu Beach in the north down to Mertasari Beach in southern Sanur. What an

enjoyable ride at that time of the morning, with a beautiful gentle seabreeze and only a few locals and the beachfront shop owners going about their business setting up

their beachside stalls for the day’s trade.

We are not professional riders so the tour was just right for us, cycling along on level ground and with no hills to climb. The amount and the pace of cycling we did was

just perfect for our level of fitness, Michael is aware of everyones cycling ability and paces the ride to match. The bicycles were impressive, clean and (look like) new.

Sanitised helmets were supplied along with cold bottled water to drink along the way.

Our tour guide spoke excellent english, and we had no trouble understanding his instructions. He obviously knows Sanur like the back of his hand and has a good rapport with many locals and shopkeepers along the route. He was also very friendly and made us all feel comfortable, and looked after us very well indeed.

I would definitely recommend Sanur Cycle Tours it if you are looking for something different to do in Sanur and at the same time getting up close and acquainted with

the Sanur locals and their customs.
