TWO KILLED IN KARANGASEM LANDSLIDE

Heavy rains in Karangasem Saturday afternoon caused a landslide to occur along Jalan Raya Sangyang Ambu in Karangasem, killing two local residents and injuring two others.

Ni Nyoman Klemun (60) and her grandchild, Ni Wayan Dwi Ulandari (7), were killed after the landslide buried their brick home. Eye witness Komang Widiarta said that the landslide occurred quickly and with little warning, providing no opportunity for the victims to escape. “The landslide happened so fast that they couldn’t save themselves,” said Widiarta.

Sutopolo Purwo Nugroho, head of Data Information and Public Relations for the National Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), said that the agency, along with military personnel and local residents, worked to remove the victims from the buried home and clear the road, which had been blocked by the landslide.
