NEW VILLAGE PRE SCHOOL OPENS IN UBUD

There were jubilant celebrations from children and parents in Ubud as Bali Children’s Project opened Anak Pertiwi, their first permanent pre-school and library yesterday (8th February 2015).

After operating for over 10 years from a family compound and then a small office that doubled up as a pre-school for local children, Bali Children’s Project finally opened their dedicated new school on 8th January. The new building is a dream come true for the registered Yayasan (Indonesia) and non-profit 501c3 (USA). Now local children have a permanent and dedicated school to start them on their educational journey.

It was only made possible thanks to the crowdfunding efforts of Bali Children’s Project supporters, who got together and raised an impressive $10,000, which was matched by a corporate funding program in the USA.

The school is made up of a classroom building, and a library that will be open to all who need it. While school is in session for the mornings, the library will be open 9-5 for all children in the local community.

An official opening of the school took place, with students and parents attending, as well as funders and local supporters.

With a capacity of 40 students aged from three to five, this school marks a huge step in young Balinese children’s educational lives. ‘Early stage education is absolutely crucial to the development of children’ commented Linda Venter, BCP Founder. ‘With so few pre schools in Bali, we are pleased to not only have this great new school, but also have the ability to support other pre schools’.

The opening celebrations were made extra special by the guests of honor, Komang Soni and Komang Pande, both former students who graduated through school thanks to sponsorship from Bali Children’s Project.

Speaking on the day, Ni Wayan Ekayanti said ‘It was a proud moment to see Soni and Komang open the school. We hope that the children here today will follow in their footsteps and achieve their dreams.’

The Bali Children’s Project runs a variety of programs to support the educational needs of children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Their projects include providing sponsorships, sex education (HIV & AIDS), pre-school education and access to traditional teaching gardens.
