Authorities have seized liquor from unlicensed venues during an operation called “Operation Diseased Society” over the last two weeks.

Police say that the operation has targeted dozens of cafes and bars that sell Class C alcohol (over 40 percent alcohol content) from vendors without proper licenses.

“Liquor that is not authorized to sell, we confiscated. On average, we seized alcohol with levels above 40 percent,” said West Denpasar Policeman Agus Setiawan.

He said that many establishments did not have the proper documentation and that sellers could be fined Rp 50 million and imprisoned for up to three months.
