BIRD CONTROL AT BALI AIRPORT UPGRADED
PT Angkasa Pura I Ngurah Rai International Airport, Bali, has begun to control the birds found around the airport in order to maintain air traffic safety.
“We have installed an instrument emitting sounds to repel birds from the southern tip to the western area of the airport,” said Co-General Manager of PT Angkasa Pura I Ngurah Rai International Airport, I Gusti Ngurah Ardita yesterday.
According to Ardita, regular monitoring of birds is one thing that is very crucial in creating operational smoothness and safety when planes are taking off or landing. Especially in the current rainy season, many birds are foraging in the area of the airport runway and consider the conditions near the “runway” very grassy.
A number of white storks roam around the runway area. The birds allegedly fly from mangrove forest area on the west side of the island. Some flights have been cancelled due to hitting birds recently at the airport.
There was no mention in this article of the chaos caused by two Lion Air flights being cancelled after hitting birds in Jakarta last week causing three days of delays for that airline.
