NEW VISA CHARGES/PENALTIES

May 2, 2019

The Indonesian government reviews immigration fees around every 3 years, with the last review in 2015. Therefore, it is no surprise that they have finally released a new fee table. In general the fees are now higher. In particular, the overstay penalty has been increased to Rp 1 million per day !

Beyond the overstay penalty, we review the immigration fees that you may commonly encounter.

So, after several months of speculation and rumours the overstay penalty is now confirmed to increase from IDR 300,000 per day to IDR 1,000,000 per day if you overstay your visa (any visa).

Indonesia overstay penalty increased to 1 million rupiah per day. Foreigners who are overstaying their visa by not more than 60 days incur a penalty of Rp 1 million per day.

This change was confirmed in the Presidential Decree 28 from the year 2019 concerning the types and rates of of non-tax revenues.

These changes will start from 3 May 2019 onwards.

The maximum days you are allowed to overstay are 60 days. If you overstay by more than 60 days (incurring a 60 million penalty) then you will need to go to court and a prison sentence or additional fine may be given to you along with blacklisting so you cannot return to Indonesia for a certain length of time.

Always remember when counting the days of your stay (generally 30 days if you are on a tourist visa) to make sure to include day 1 and day 30 (the day you actually arrive, and the day you actually leave). Also, if you arrive at the airport at say 10pm and you flight is scheduled to depart at 12:30 then that is counted as another day because it is past midnight.
